Standard Terms and Conditions to Commission
We will need to discuss specific terms but, for general guidance, some of the usual terms for commissioning a piece of art are as follows.

1. In certain circumstances customers may be asked to contribute toward the artists travel and accommodation expenses incurred on visits to discuss the artwork, visit the projected building or meet with designers or architects. This would normally only apply if the prospective project entailed the artist traveling a significant distance to visit the customer or site.

2. Once the artist has been accepted and briefed and a fee has been agreed, a 30% to 50% deposit is payable in advance. Once the artwork has been produced this deposit is non-returnable, even in the unlikely event that the final artwork is rejected.

3. The client usually agrees to pay for transportation of the artwork, and for artwork to be insured while in transit (please note that you should expect fees will be charged at cost prices).

4. If the artist is VAT registered artwork is subject to Value Added Tax (within Europe), and may be subject to state or national taxes, in other regions. These taxes are payable by the purchaser.
